De uiteinden van het bot en het gewrichtskapsel bestaan uit kraakbeen. Dit is een sponsachtig, veerkrachtig weefsel dat botverbindingen een egaal oppervlak geeft, zodat ze soepel over elkaar kunnen bewegen en grote schokken dempen. Kraakbeenweefsel is merendeels opgebouwd uit collageen type II.<\/p>\n

Voor de opbouw en herstel van het kraakbeen zijn de aminozuren glycine, proline, hydroxyproline, lysine en hydroxylysine van groot belang.<\/p>\n
